2nd: Kawhi Leonard & Paul George
Let’s get this out of the way right off the bat. The fact that this is a Lakers website has nothing to do with the outcome of this article.
That is not to take away from the immense talent they both possess.
Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have turned the LA Clippers into a team to be reckoned with going forward.
Ballmer and co. were correct to blow it up and start anew.
With Kawhi and PG they did just that.
Adding the two Superstars to an already strong squad has allowed for the Clippers for the 1st time in franchise history to be considered actual title contenders.
Whether they ever win a ring with this pairing is debatable but it puts them in a really good position to do so moving forward.
Kawhi Leonard. The silent Assassin. Devoid of emotion, machine like in his precision and one hell of a basketball player.
Kawhi comes to the Clippers having carried the Toronto Raptors over the finish line in the NBA finals against a decimated Golden State Warriors team.
At his best, Kawhi is arguably the best player in the NBA, capable of locking down the opposing teams best players whilst also scoring at an elite level, Kawhi is a beast that is so predictable in what he does but you cannot stop him.
Paul George, The Robin to Kawhi’s Batman is no slouch himself.
Last season, PG was a MVP contender having had an excellent season with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Once a chance to play with Kawhi in his home town arose, Paul George was out of there.
PG has struggled with injuries throughout the season and has not looked the MVP candidate he did 12 months previous. The injuries seem to be taking a toll, especially on his athleticism as he is settling alot more for 3-point shots and getting going from mid range.
That is not to take away from the level he is still playing at. Paul George is playing between an All NBA and All Star level.
With Both Kawhi and George being excellent defenders as well as scorers, the Clippers have a 1-2 punch that is effective and that has carried them to alot of wins this season.
The potential of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard when fully healthy is the reason why they are 2nd on this list.
When Kawhi is on, he is a top 3 player in the league.
When Paul George is on, he is a top 10 maybe top 15 player in the NBA.
With the Clippers supporting cast, fitting well with PG and Kawhi, they have a real chance to be a great team.
It is all about whether they realise that potential and bring a 1st championship to the LA Clippers.
