Following winning a ring the season prior, Rondo’s play would see an upturn as the Celtics tried to repeat. Throughout the 82 game schedule, Rondo averaged 11.9 PPG, 8.2 APG and 5.2 RPG as Boston won 62 games and, finished 2nd in the strong Eastern Conference. In correspondence with his increased assist numbers, Rondo’s assist percentage would skyrocket as he finished at 39.7%.

The following offseason would be a disappointment for the Celts as they were beaten in the Conference Semifinals by the eventual finalist, the Orlando Magic. The 2 series Rondo took part in both went to 7 games as he averaged 16.9 PPG, 9.8 APG and, 9.7 RPG over the 14 games. His best game would come in Game 1 of the First Round as he scored 29 points, handed out 9 assists and, pulled down 7 rebounds as Boston lost the first game of their ’09 Playoff campaign.

The ’08-’09 season can easily go down as an example of Rondo stepping his game up in the Playoffs. Jumping from his regular-season numbers to almost a triple-double in the Playoffs is an achievement that can’t be underestimated, even with the small sample size of just 14 games.
